Former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir Critical

Former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir is admitted at a private hospital. Justice Kabir, 68, served as the 39th Chief Justice of India from September 29, 2012, till his retirement on July 19, 2013.

Hospital sources said he was admitted two days ago.

Justice Kabir was a part of Supreme Court bench that had famously ruled that a husband’s female relatives can be booked for domestic violence. Justice Kabir was also a part of the bench hearing the case of two Italian Marines who had allegedly killed two Kerala fishermen.

Justice Kabir started off as an advocate in 1973 at the Kolkata Bar Association and then practised at the Calcutta High Court. In 2005, he was appointed as a Supreme Court judge. He was appointed Chief Justice of India in September 2012, and served till July 2013.
