In a Sunday statement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi offered his condolences to the Iraqi nation and government and the families of the victims calling the incident “a blatant Terrorist crime”.

He also noted that the remnants of Takfiri terrorists, who have lost their base in Iraq, seek to create insecurity in the country and take revenge on the people of Iraq through blind terrorist operations.

However, he added, such attacks will not undermine the Iraqi government and people’s determination to fight against this cancerous tumor and eradicate it.

On Sunday, a car bomb blast rocked the Iraqi city of Tikrit, killing at least five people. At least 16 others were also injured.

Iraqi police said the blast set nearly a dozen vehicles on fire. Such attacks have been rare in Tikrit since ISIS terrorists were defeated in Iraq in 2017.
