Black Nitrile Gloves

Rodney and I were hunting a Corsican ram in southern Oregon two weeks ago, and after my success (yea!) we got to work on the animal, and Rodney pulled on a pair of Nitrile Gloves.  I happen to have a client from my SEO business who sells nitrile gloves, and we got to talking about why nitrile gloves were useful to hunters…and a few less than obvious things came up that I’ll share:

  • If you take pictures of your trophy while you have your gloves on, and you’ve got the usual light blue ones, boy is that going to look goofy in the photos–and they really stand out.  They do make black nitrile gloves–not only that, but they come in a slightly thicker, more tear-resistant version (6 mil).
  • You might think to use nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean of blood and other nasty internal bits when you’re dressing the animal–but sometimes the animal’s fur is actually a problem as well.  Where we were hunting, the hillsides are rife with poison oak (all that light green shrubbery in the foreground above is poison oak!), and the animals not only rub up against it as they graze, but some of them eat the stuff too.  There are long cuff versions available too, which can offer better protection when you’re wrestling with the carcass.
  • Gun cleaning: I’m sure we all know by now that the stuff that gets oils and gunpowder residue off easily isn’t exactly good for your skin (and most of those “green” cleaners don’t really clean these sorts of chemicals off that well).  Nitrile is pretty impervious to most solvents, unlike latex.

My client mostly sells to hospitals, police forces, EMT/EMS, and factories, so they sells in bulk (minimum order is 10 boxes of 100 gloves/box).  Prices of the 6 mil Black Nitrile Gloves are about the same as the cheap blue thin ones you’ve probably been using, however.  Their website is www.safecare-gloves.com.
