When you’re deciding where to go on your trip up north, Eagle Lake in Ontario is a destination that should be high on your list of “must see” items. There’s a lot to be said for the area, the beauty of the scenery, and the massive amounts of fishing you can do while you’re there.

Eagle Lake attracts anglers and families alike because of the various things you can see and do while visiting. Although there’s a heavy focus on the fishing (and really, there should be because it’s amazing) you aren’t going to be bored out of your mind if you want to spend time doing something else too.

When it comes to exploring the Eagle Lake area you really do have a lot of options. Budding photographers and wildlife enthusiasts often find beautiful opportunities to see something they never have before and to get that perfect shot just before the sun sets. Exploring Eagle Lake can be several days worth of activities with the area being about 70 miles long.

With so much lakefront area to explore, so many fish to catch, and so much wildlife to see it’s possible you’ll never want to leave. Still wondering what you should see while you’re in the Eagle Lake area? Keep reading. Here are some things you should keep in mind while you’re exploring Eagle Lake in Ontario Canada.

The Fishing

Okay, you knew this one was coming. Eagle Lake is a huge fishing attraction for anglers around the world. With such a large lake you just know there are going to be large fish biting. The locals will tell you the fish bite all day long. They can even tell you what kinds of bait to use, where to look for the kind of fish you want to catch, and the best times of day to find that specific fish.

With some fishermen being able to catch 15 to 40 walleye per day, and muskies that are bigger than your wildest dreams you really can’t miss your chance to fish on Eagle Lake. If you’ve been to Eagle Lake in previous years you’ll definitely want to make sure to try and top the record you set last year for the biggest fish you’ve ever caught.

Since you also have the option to change things up and try to catch new types of fish every time you go out, you won’t find yourself tiring of the area any time soon. You aren’t limited to walleye or muskies. You can also fish for northern pike and trout if you’re feeling adventurous.

Sometimes the northern pikes can get up to the 15-25 pound range. That’s a catch you can brag about for at least a year or two. The fishing experiences you’ll have on Eagle Lake are sure to make memories that last forever. If you’re bringing the family then they’ll have some fond memories of learning to fish in one of the greatest locations possible. It really is a huge reason to go exploring around the area.

The Wild Life

Maybe it’s time to take a break from the lakes itself or you’re just in Eagle Lake to enjoy the scenery in the first place. Either way, you’ll want to make sure you’re taking time to enjoy the natural beauty that will surround you for your entire trip. There are about 400 tiny islands within this 67,000-acre lake and they’re all filled with lush forest terrain bursting with wildlife.

If you’re a photographer by trade or just as a hobby you won’t find opportunities for pictures like this anywhere else. Sunsets on the lake will be stunning and you’ll be able to explore the area to see animals like moose, owls, and wolves in the more forested areas.

If you’re looking for pictures of other types of wildlife not limited to the forests you’re set there too. Loons and beavers are plentiful on the lake, and eagles can be seen flying around on a regular basis. If you’re lucky you can even spot some black bears or white-tailed deer to snap a few pictures of before they scamper off.

Even if you aren’t a photographer the scenery will still be breathtaking and being able to talk about any of the awesome wildlife you see is worth it whether you get magazine worthy pictures or not. The only thing you really need to be to enjoy Eagle Lake’s scenery is someone that’s excited to see what nature has to offer.

The Lakefront

Eagle Lake has a 400-mile shoreline. That means there’s a lot of lakefront to see and a lot of lakefront activities you can do. You can spend time just enjoying how peaceful everything feels while sitting on the shoreline, or you can get involved in some of the fun lake activities you’re sure to run into.

Family time at the lake lends itself to activities from swimming to playing a little volleyball. You can probably even find some areas that are set up for you to have a nice cook-out. If you are planning things out carefully you might even be able to enjoy some of the fish you (or someone else in the family) caught that day while you’re enjoying the lakefront.

Conclusion:

If you came for the fishing you’re going to want to stay for the scenery (and probably some more fishing too). Eagle Lake is a beautiful area with so much to see it’s impossible to do it all in just a few days. You’ll want to be able to enjoy every ounce of what the lake has to offer while you’re there.

Whether you spend your time fishing, looking for the local wildlife, or just enjoying the shorelines, you’re sure to have a great time. Eagle Lake isn’t a destination that’s set up to disappoint anyone in the family. You’ll be able to see and do things that will be talked about for years to come.

No matter what you end up doing while you’re there, remember to take some time to just enjoy what’s around you. You’ll be glad you made the choice to check out the area after you see just how beautiful it really is.
