Normandie Express

The Normandie Express is Brittany Ferries’ fastest ferry which crosses the English Channel from Portsmouth to Cherbourg in Normandy which is why it’s gained the name the Normandie Express.

The stunning high speed catamaran can carry up to 235 cars and 843 passengers and can reach a cruising speed of up to 42 knots or around 78km/h. Although the Normandie Express is the fastest of the fleet, it is unable to carry larger vehicles with the maximum length and width being 9m and 4m respectively. This means that if you are travelling by motorhome or towing a caravan, you will be unable to travel. That being said however, for those travelling by car who wish to get from Portsmouth to France quickly, will find the 3 hour journey a bonus.

Onboard the Normandie Express

Onboard the Normandie Express you’ll find a great range of facilities. Brittany Ferries have certainly planned their vessel well and have ensured that you have an enjoyable journey. There’s plenty of space for you to relax including a viewing deck, lots of comfortable seating, a cafe and bar which provide a range of food and drinks and a small shop. As the journey from Portsmouth to Cherbourg is so short, you’ll find no accommodation on board.

One thing to be aware of is the restricted facilities for those disabled travellers. Due to the vessels design, passengers in wheelchairs and with limited mobility may find getting around the Normandie Express more difficult than other ferries. Brittany Ferries staff will however help as much as possible as long as they are given notice of your travel.

Please note that as with all vehicle transporting members of the public, you are not allowed to smoke or use e-caigarettes onboard.
