Let the creativity flow.
Amid the excitement of the new winter themed skins and icy map updates, Fortnite added a separate Mode that elevates the already insanely popular game to a new level of depth. Fortnite Creative is big, ambitious, and inventive in its goal to give creators the tools to build their dream worlds and wildest creations.
When you have something good, make the most of it. That’s certainly the mindset behind Epic’s consistent updates and patches. Love it or hate it, Fortnite is a finely crafted game with a powerfully impressive engine, no matter your thoughts on the Battle Royale genre. It’s the reason so many players are able to build towering and detailed skyscrapers one minute and an exhilarating race track with jump pads and speed boosts the next. It’s the reason Creative mode was introduced.
Creative mode is the next big step in Fortnite’s evolution. It’s being touted as the third pillar among the Battle Royale and Save the World modes, and rightfully so. Whether it’s the Support A Creator program or the freedom to build in the Playground playlist, Epic is increasingly making a push to involve creators both in and outside of Fortnite.
Fortnite’s community is a passion filled group with members who regularly glee over each other’s impressive kill replays and marvel at incredible buildings and creations that regularly populate Reddit and Twitter. Creative tackles the latter by giving these architects at heart the ability to create without limitation. Build entire towns, create an obstacle course complete with a scoreboard, and orchestrate your own deathmatch with friends using custom rules. It’s all in Creative.
It’s hard to look at Creative without catching glimpses of what made Minecraft so successful. No, you can’t roam around an endless world, but the imaginative freedom to craft whatever you like within the means of Fortnite is certainly there. It’s a breeding ground for new challenges and new game modes that will likely influence the battle royale mode.
What’s extra awesome is the recently announced map update in the battle royale mode. The Block is a large concrete slab where player creations from Creative will appear after being selected by Epic themselves. It’s a fun way to encourage players to try out Creative but it holds bigger implications on the types of collaborations these two modes can bring.
It has only been a few days and the passion projects for Creative are already underway.
Any way you look at it, Creative is Epic taking a much loved aspect of Fortnite and propping it up as its own separate experience. Fortnite is already a massive success and cool additions like this make it clear it’s here to stay. It’s easy to hate something popular but it’s harder when its doing something truly special.
