“Every tree, every building, every car.”
Last night, Fortnite’s Tilted Towers became the site of a massive demolition fest and dance party to welcome a mysterious meteor the community has been tracking for a month. The meteor didn’t end up striking Tilted Towers as anticipated, but the Fortnite community still got some excitement out of it.
Reddit user xsqoof posted to the Fortnite subreddit yesterday to plan the event, writing, “Today, at 6:00 PM EST we will all queue up at the same time into solos, and land at Tilted Towers to honor it’s greatness by destroying every single structure in the city. Every tree, every building, every car. Once everything is gone, we all have a massive dance party to pay respects to the city. Be there, to honor this soon-to be fallen location by standing united and in harmony.”
While trolls and griefers did show up to disrupt the event, xsqoof believes it was a success.
“Thank you all so much for taking your time to participate in the Wake Ceremony. I’m glad to have moved the community in such a way and to have coordinated this entire event because it blew up and I really wasn’t expecting it to,” wrote xsqoof.
The Fortnite meteor was first spotted back in March, and has slowly been getting closer. Weird clues, like vibrating controller patterns, have lead some players on a hunt to unravel the mystery.
Players thought the meteor would hit Tilted Towers on April 18 after Reddit user vigilancefoetracer translated the controller vibrations into Morse code to produce the following message: SOS D 5 418.
Players took the D5 as a reference to the section of the map where Tilted Towers stands and 418 to mean April 18.
