EA Hiring for ‘Star Wars Open World Project’

Visceral’s reshaped project going open world at EA Vancouver?

If a recent job listing is any indication, Electronic Arts’ Vancouver Studio is working on an open-world Star Wars game.

The listing, discovered by GameSpot on EA Vancouver’s careers page, is for a lead online engineer, who will “lead a team to deliver online features for a Star Wars Open World project.”

While the job post doesn’t provide much in terms of specifics about the project itself, we do know EA Vancouver is currently at work on what initially started as the Amy Hennig-directed Star Wars project at Visceral Games. The game is being developed across EA’s Worldwide Studios, with its Vancouver studio heading up production.

Last year, EA announced the Visceral project is being reshaped from a linear title to “to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.”

According to Electronic Arts, the decision to shut down Visceral and refocus the project wasn’t because it was a single-player game, with EA VP Patrick Söderlund reaffirming this past October that story-driven single-player games are still part of the publisher’s future.
