H1Z1’s Player Base Down 91 Percent as PUBG and Fortnite Reign Supreme in Battle Royale

Share.

H1Z1 is no longer King of the Hill.

H1Z1: King of the Hill’s player base of the game has plummeted by 91 percent since July 2017.

H1Z1’s Battle Royale Mode popularised the genre, but with the release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and Fortnite’s battle royale mode, the title has struggled to retain players, with GiyHyp reporting the drastic drop in players over the last seven months.

The game’s popular King of the Hill mode – available to buy separately alongside the Just Survive mode – managed to make the title the third most-played game on Steam during its heyday, peaking at 150,000 players with an average of 86,000 people playing per hour.

Looking at the Steam Charts today, it peaked at 8,523 concurrent players, and is floating around 63rd place on Steam by concurrent player count, behind The Forest, and The Division.

H1Z1 developer Daybreak has previously said that  “there wouldn’t be a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds if there wasn’t an H1Z1,”  adding that the success of PUBG is “creating an opportunity” for H1Z1 to reach a wider audience.
