Monster Hunter World Will Add New Monsters as Free DLC

Share.

More Monsters are a-coming.

Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto recently announced during a livestream that the latest entry in the series, Monster Hunter World, will receive free updates post-launch. He’s now clarified those comments, confirming that additional monsters will be added to the game as DLC, free of charge.

As reported by Siliconera, he made the comments in an interview with Famitsu where he was asked specifically about post-launch content. He clarified that they are planning “new monsters and such” as part of the game’s free updates, with the specific goal of ensuring that players will “play for as long as possible”.

Although no further details were given, with Tsujimoto promising further details on new monsters to come, the news will likely be welcome as the debate around microtransactions in games heats up in the wake of Star Wars: Battlefront II’s loot box controversy.

Monster Hunter World launches worldwide on PS4 and Xbox One January 26, 2018, with a PC release to follow. For more on the game, check out its collaborations with Mega Man and Horizon: Zero Dawn, or take a look at our early thoughts on the game.
