In a press release, Blackfire Games (Runestone Keeper) has announced “Unformed,” a Metroidvania-esque action game inspired by Chinese folklore and H.P. Lovecraft’s stories. Not only is it inspired by the Metroidvania sub-genre, but it’s also influenced by the Souls (Dark Souls, Demon Souls) series, too.

Unformed is a metroidvania set in a fantasy world inspired by Chinese folklore and Lovecraft’s stories, with challenging combat mechanics influenced by Souls series (Dark Souls, Bloodborne). Mystic intuition had drawn the heroine to the legendary land of immortality, yet upon arrival she founds out not being able to die is but an ancient curse. To survive in this world of madness and distortion, her only hope is to seek the truth of everlasting life from her own blood.

According to Blackfire Games, Unformed is scheduled to be released on PC sometime next year, with console versions (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) coming at a later date.

For those not familiar with the studio, Blackfire Games hails from both Hangzhou, China and San Francisco, and is known for the success of Runestone Keeper.
