In a message on Twitter, Hitman developer Io-Interactive said they’ve laid off an unknown amount of staff, which will allow them “to be better equipped for our future adventures.”
Here’s the studio’s full statement on the changes they’ve made:
Today at IOI, we had to make some changes to our studio, which will allow us to be better equipped for our future adventures.
We’re sad that great talent and good friends will be leaving the studio. We are doing everything possible to look after everyone affected.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
The layoffs come less than two weeks after Square Enix said they were dropping Io-Interactive, and were currently looking to sell the developer. An update hasn’t been given on the status of the sale.
According to a recent report, Io-Interactive retains the rights to Hitman Season 2, which is scheduled to arrive in 2018.
Back on May 17, Io-Interactive said, “There’s a lot going on right now and we’ll have more to say at a later point.”
