MALICIOUS FILES POSE AS NEW SALT MOVIE ON TORRENT SITES

Malicious files have been uploaded to file sharing sites posing as the new Angelna Jolie film called Salt. These files are booby-trapped QuickTime files used to infect computers. When users try to view the supposed movie a prompt is generated offering to download update codecs, which are actually loaded with trojan horse malware.

The attack was originally thought to rely on an unpatched flaw in QuickTime, Apple has told Trend Micro that this was not the case. The attack relies solely on social engineering trickery.

Whenever playing movie files never ever click on anything asking to update video codecs, this trick is becoming one of the oldest ones in the book! Instead you can use a program like video inspector by KC Softwares to see which audio and video codecs the video requires, you can then download the right one. Be safe!!!
