by Arthur Hill But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10 NASB The referenced Bible text continues by asking a question: “Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in Holy Conduct and goodness?” The year gone by with its joys and sorrows is over. We have mourned the earthly loss of family and friends, but are joyous in the certain knowledge that they now rest in the arms of God. Whatever problems we may have faced now fade into memory. The mistakes we have made and sins committed are in the past. We have been renewed by God’s gift of His Son who erased our sins through His death on the Cross and resurrection to a new and perfect life. We now face new opportunities. We are about to begin writing a new chapter in our book of life. Hopefully our thoughts, words, and actions will reflect our accomplishment of the new tasks assigned by God for our service to Him and our fellow men/women. Hopefully when this New Year ends we will hear the Lord Say, “Well done my good and faithful servant”. Father, help us to be the people You want us to be in holy conduct and goodness. Amen
