Indescribable joy
“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:8-9)
That in which Christians believe is much greater, more precious, more powerful and glorious than we are even able to conceive. But, we need not fear. It is actually yet another act of grace, that God has placed this truth within our “earthen vessels”. And it has its reason, which we read in 2 Corinthians 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” How great grace triumphs in our gifted faith, which we may have acknowledged, however could not produce by ourselves (Romans 3:10-12), we are perhaps not even able to fathom it yet. But, we are founded on hope, because faith and sanctification comes before seeing (Hebrews 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”)! Not as a temporal prerequisite, but as a necessary and sanctifying consequence of our election before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). We can not fully comprehend this, but can firmly believe it. Having hope is not a cheap comfort of the hereafter, nor a fanatic clinging to that which is imagined and which one implicitly wants to be true. On the contrary, it has to do with the immeasurable power of the Almighty. This holy God deliberately decided to make His power visible in the weak (2 Corinthians 12:9). That must suffice us, even as it sufficed the Apostle Paul.

And it is something which the Bible describes with the words “profusely” (Luther) or “excessive” (Elberfelder) and “superior” (Schlachter). And this hope is nothing that we need to be ashamed of or be mocked for. It is ultimately all God's work and His glory and His honour. Why? Because there is no God above God and the LORD is the Highest and First in all things (Deuteronomy 4:35). Who can God give honour to, if not Himself? That is justice, logic, truth and spirituality in the highest Presence, divine holiness and unwavering dynamic. To what extent, we will find out in heaven, when we will see what God has prepared for those who believe in Him and love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9). The Gospel of the forgiveness of sin by God's Son Jesus Christ is worthy of all honour and glory. It is namely, in the first instance, worthy of Jesus' honour and glory! And indeed there where the origin and source and of all being and becoming is and always will be: with the Father in heaven! In Matthew 6:9-10 The evangelist writes the truth in the first lines: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.'' These are the facts and that which is to come and will occur. Jesus is coming again, just as He promised (Matthew 24:30) and the joy and the peace will have no end. We will exist eternally in a new glorified body and will experience life as God planned it in a way and manner which completely honours God in all His greatness, power and love. That is the end-goal.
