Something Every Job Seeker & Employer In Our Community Should Read

For those in the process of job hunting, one thing they soon learn is that searching the various Job Board out there is a time consuming process. Basically there are 4 primary types of job boards, an employer’s job board which generally shows only their own company’s open positions, niche job boards which focus on specific industries, general job boards that charge for employers to post open job positions and finally what are called aggregated job boards which compile lists of open job positions from all the other job board types.

Another thing job hunters soon realize is there is a lot of duplicate listings across many of these job boards. Each job board endeavors to eliminate duplicates through the use of computer formulas (algorithms) and sometimes AI(artificial intelligence). Part of the problem for job hunters is that employers sometimes write different job ads for the same actual job opening. Re-phrasing, different job descriptions and qualification requirements of similar job posts further complicates the issue of duplicate job posts.

Most big job boards rely on algorithms and AI primarily because of cost issues. A few actually go back to the good old fashion method of actually physically inspecting each job post and looking for job posts that appear to be duplicates. This can be a laborious process but usually proves worth the effort if that job board really wants to have a concise and accurate representation of the real jobs available in the areas they serve.

The SPFM Job Bank & Job Board is of the aggregator type. However, being focused on our local communities of Prescott, PrescottValley, ChinoValley, Paulden, WilliamsonValley and Dewey/Humboldt, the SPFM Job Bank & Job Board employs the good old fashion human approach. This means that the job posts we put up daily have been screened (to the best of our ability) for duplicates. If a similar job from the same employer appears within a week, we generally will not post it unless there is some unusual circumstance and there can be good reasons for what appears to be a duplicate job post but in reality isn’t one. For example, an employer may have hired a job candidate from a previous post and that new hire didn’t work out so the employer had to run the job ad again. It’s not unusual for us to call the employer to obtain some clarification.

I’m pointing all this out to point our just one of the reasons the SPFM Job Bank & Job Board is uniquely designed to meet the needs of those in the communities we serve. Our motivation is helping people not making money. No we aren’t big nor will we ever be. No we may not have massive lists of job postings but we believe those we do post are quality job posts. Our desire is work with Job Seekers and help them find the right job and not just any job. We also endeavor to match up job seekers with employers where both parties will obtain the greatest reward for their association with each other.

There are many employers in our communities that don’t even use Job Boards because of the cost of some of them. Being able to make Free Job Posts on an actual job board whose focus is local is something they are still unaware of. We truly would like to have more of these employers use us when they have open job positions. Granted, on the whole, our job posts from local employers aren’t fancy like the big boards but we ask the employer this – do you want fancy or good job candidates? We’re a non-profit and simply can’t afford those elaborate and fancy Job Board Operating Systems and still maintain the quality of what we post.

One of the things that has surprised us some since we started is how few Job Seekers have submitted their resume with us. We know there are active job seekers out there because of the amount of daily traffic we receive on the job board. In a way we can understand this since with the majority of location courting job seekers to submit their resume that job seeker’s resume is placed in a big database, often without much if any  human interaction involved and the only time they get contacted is when their listed job qualification match up 100% with what an employer is looking for. Some times all this matching up is even done by computer without a pair of human eyes every reviewing the resume until the computer spits out its results.

Operating on a human level, every resume that is submitted to us is actually reviewed by a human the minute it comes in. We will even contact the individual submitting the resume and if suggestions to improve that resume seem appropriate we will let them know. Again this doesn’t cost the person submitting the resume one cent. For those wishing to actually register with us, we work very closely with them in a number of ways to increase their job hunting prospects.

Let me reiterate here to both job seeker and potential employer that we do not arrange jobs for job seekers. We are a connecting conduit between a job seeker and a potential employer. It is up to the job seeker to land that job. We work with the job seeker in what ever way we can to make their prospects as good as possible. The final hiring decision is always the potential employer’s. We do no actual job candidate screening not do we do background checks or any of the other pre-screening procedures big recruiting and staffing firms do. That’s not our goal. We believe employers are “Big Boys” and know what they need to do to hire competent employees. When we receive a Free Job Post from an employer, we usually contact that employer and endeavor to obtain as much information as we can about that open position and what the employer is actually looking for in a new employer. It’s almost impossible to put that much information in any online job post but this type of information is necessary to know if we are going to help make that good connection I mentioned.

If you are a job seeker, getting your resume in our hands will only be a benefit to you. Better yet, actually register with us. I believe you will find working with folks that really care is something you will find quite different. If you are an employer seeking to fill a vacant position or are hiring additional personnel, see how working with real live folks like yourself makes a difference.
