3 Habits Of Highly Effective People

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. (Psalm 5:1 - 3)

These verses give us a profoundly simple prescription for starting our day, every day. If we truly made these a habit, let them become so entwined into the fabric of our lifestyle it would literally change the direction and course of our lives. They are not complicated. They are very simple and need little explanation. We don't need to attach a list of formulas on how to do these three things. We just need to simply do them.

#1 - Ask

I have found that we humans have the knack for putting this on the bottom of the list. It should be first. Before you do anything, just ask. Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:7, "Ask and it shall be given to you." And in verse 8 he says, "For everyone who asks receives." Why don't we take advantage of this promise more often? If we need help, all we need to do is ask.

#2 - Pray

We have over-complicated prayer these days. Too often we make prayer a way to tell God what he needs to do for us. That is not prayer. Prayer is the art of listening to God's voice and hearing what he want us to do. We don't pray to change God's heart. We pray to change our own hearts.

#3 - Wait

This is the hardest of the three. I am not good at waiting. I hate to wait. I like instant answers and immediate results. I think some of our biggest problems arise due to the fact that we aren't patient. Waiting is where God tests our motivation. If we are only interested in our own agenda we are not going to wait very long. When we are truly interested in what God wants, we will do whatever it takes and wait however long it takes to get it.

What are you asking God for today? What is God asking of you today? Are you patiently waiting on him to speak? Simple truth for profound transformation.
