Happy 75

So this Poem was written for my Da for his 75th birthday last week! It is the first poem I have written in months and I think it is important for me to share!

When you were a boy you had great plans for your life,
Joining the Marines, having kids, and making Joanne your wife.
Far from your mind was becoming ordained,
Your only mission was keeping the ship sustained.
Then in Hawaii a priest said there was no sin,
But you being you had to put your two cents in.
Sin is attractive, it is easily done,
who wouldn't sin? It's a whole lot of fun!
He told you of the Deaconate, that it might be for you,
you told him that statement was totally untrue!
Over time you then saw the ways that God showed he was there,
And you were ordained with grey in your hair.
You became the first Permanent Deacon around,
Who would have thunk YOU would be heaven bound?
You have been not just a Deacon to so many of us,
But you say it's the Holy Spirit and don't make a fuss!
But today of all days don't you argue with me,
If it wasn't for you I WOULDN'T know the man on the tree!
Happy birthday Da Deacon, my mentor and friend,
From the prodigal child who came back in the end!
