Introduction

During the summer of 2010, I took a Sociology course at a local community college. At first, the purpose of taking this class was to challenge myself to more advanced courses during my summer vacation. The Introductory Sociology course affected my life in an unexpected manner. This course allowed my love and hope to one day Teach to flourish. The passion my professor demonstrated instilled in me a greater desire to teach. I have been knowing that I want to teach for almost a year now, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to teach. Now I know. The Sociology course has affected my perception of the society I live in. During this course I was given the assignment to analyze a Social Problem. The social problem I chose was the affects of educational inequality in low-income students. After completing this paper, I wanted to do more. It wasn’t more writing that I wanted to do. I wanted to act. I wanted to contribute to my society…specifically the low-income children I spoke about in my paper. That’s what I wanted to do. That’s what this blog is about. Entering my senior year of high school, getting ready to fill out college applications, I am satisfied with knowing what I want to do with my life. I know where I see myself in the future. A college professor or high school teacher that not only teaches sociology, but contributes to society and goes beyond just observing. Meanwhile, I will blog about my current contributions. Please follow me on this rewarding journey! :)
