The Da Vinci Code

Hi and welcome to my blog.
Today I am going to talk about a very controversial book and the topics it has produced. The Da Vinci Code written by Dan Brown in 2003 arose alot of questions the in Catholic community. Although the author states that the book is fiction, he does this because he can not historically back up everything he says. This book does contain real items and people. Two of the more known icons in this book are the Catholic Church and Leonardo Da Vinci.

Now there real aspects of this book are:
The existence of Leonardo Da Vinci
Da Vinci's Paintings
The Priory of Sion
The Knights Templar
Opus Dei
The figures of Jesus and Mary Magdalene
Also the most important is the Symbols

Now the aspects I am going to talk about in this article is:
Was Jesus Married?

Was Jesus married?
I want to start talking about this first with verses from Mark talking about Mary, Jesus's mother. It is believed that Mary was a virgin and an clean women. That is the current teaching of the Church today and is thought to Christians around the world. Now the Bible is contradictory on this subject. Matthew 12:46, Luke 8:19, and Mark 3:31 say that Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him. The Bible tells us that Jesus had four brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matthew 13:55). The Bible also tells us that Jesus had sisters, but they are not named or numbered (Matthew 13:56). But how can Mary then  be a virgin if she gave birth to four sons and a daughter? Well she can't these Bibles were already written before the church decided that Mary was an everlasting virgin. Notice how John does not mention Jesus' siblings, this is because he was the last of the four writers and it was thought that Mary was an everlasting virgin.

My point is that the Church contradicts what the Bible and historical facts tell us. Knowing this always us to create a possibility that Jesus was married. Jesus was both man and human when he was incarnated. This means he had divine powers and also had the personality and body of a human. One of the most common things during Jesus' time was the bartering of girls to act as wives for the men of other families. Now Jesus being human and being born to Mary and Joseph (his legal father) who were both matched together by there families creates a big chance that Jesus might also been given a wife.

Another major tradition of the Jewish people in Jesus' time were big families. Most families had 3 or more kids, as shown in Jesus' family. This factor makes it likely that Jesus and his bride had a big family too. Whether Mary Magdalene was Jesus' wife or not is hard to determine. I believe that she was Jesus' wife because she is depicted as the major woman follower of Jesus. She is said to be the 13th apostle or "the apostle to the apostles." Unlike many of Jesus' disciples or apostles  she was at Jesus trail, when he was sentenced to death and his crucifixion. These are very good signs that she and Jesus had some kind of relationship.

One major argument about the Da Vinci Code that relates to whether Jesus was married or not is if the Church covered this fact up. Now many would say that the Church would not relate to murder to cover something like that up. The problem with that is the Church has related to violence for most of its history. The Church even started wars  and campaigns to gain land, riches or to so called "gain the holy land back." With the Church's bloody past following it around the murder of people who knew who the wife of Jesus was would be like a wine stain on a carpet. Also the devotion of corporal punishment and the orthodox ways of Opus Dei would fit together as to why the church would want to keep this a secret.
