The Parable of the can of worms

Tags: worms feast

BS"D

Once there was a poor man.  So poor that he didn't know where his next meal would come from.  As he wandered around the land, he found a can of Worms.  "Ah good, dinner!!",  he exclaimed, and continued his wandering with much more enthusiasm.  Suddenly, the prophet Elijah appeared before him.  "You have been invited to the feast of the saints", he informed him.

He was brought to a large tent and looked inside.  He saw candelabras, and tables piled high with all kinds of delicacies.  Preparing to enter, Elijah stopped him.  "Wait, you may enter, but the can of worms has to stay outside."

The man was conflicted, on the one hand here is this incredible feast waiting for him, but on the other hand, what if the feast turns out to be an illusion, at least his can of worms is a sure thing.

We all have our cans of worms, and clutch them in our insecurity, even though they stop us from going where we really want to go.
