Explanation of Romans 12:1-2

Romans 12:1-2

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (KJV).

To live according to God’s will is a sacrifice, a sacrifice of one’s own life.

I beseech you therefore (I am urging you). Brethren (those who have decided to become followers of Jesus Christ) by the mercies of God (the immense goodness or love of God). That ye present (offer God). Your bodies (the meaning of this particular word in this verse is ‘’LIVES’’. In other words each Christian is to offer their "life" to God. The reason why the meaning of "bodies" in this verse has to do with a persons life is because whatever you allow your Body to be a part of will have an influence over your life; either the influence being small or major. After you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior God Opens himself up to help you live according to his word, but you will only be able to access this help if you accept it. This is why Paul says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). God is willing to help you to live according to his word, but you have to accept his help for his righteousness to work in your life). A Living Sacrifice (accept to submit under the will of God). By submitting yourself to the will of God or by accepting to live according to the word of God, you are offering your body as a living sacrifice. Holy (without sin; for God says “be holy for I your lord is Holy” (Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:16) God Expect you to be without Sin, you have to accept his help as much as possible for this to happen. Do not, and I repeat Do not listen to people who tells you that God does not care whether or not you sin. Look at what happened to Adam. God wants you to live a sinless life, and it is possible with his help). You have to Submit yourself completely to God, This will help you to live the sinless life that God desires of you. When this occurs you are offering to God your body as a sacrifice that is Holy unto him. Acceptable unto God (According to God’s will. Something that is acceptable unto God is always according to his will). Which is your reasonable service (In other words, this is the duty of every one of you who have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior). 2 And Be not conformed to this world (do not live as those who are not of the Christian faith. There are many and I mean many of those who call themselves Christians but is yet following the DRESS CODE of the world , the way that the world TALKS, the kind of MUSIC that they play and even the LIFE that they live. If a person is following any of these world trends then this person is not and I repeat not a Christian. A Christian is a follower of Christ not the world). but be ye transformed (but allow your carnal spirit or nature to be changed). By renewing of your mind (Allow this “spirit” or nature that is within you to be changed according to the word of God). that ye may prove what is that good (then you will be able to discern what is according to the will of God). The will of God is Acceptable (Righteous). And Perfect (without any errors).

May God Bless You
