Getting your oxygen

Hey all. Today I just want to talk about getting your Oxygen in the overwhelming situations in life. Be blessed.

I don't know about you but life has a funny habit of getting on top of us, wouldn't you agree. Everyone is busy, we all have tasks we need to achieve before the day is out. For example, I'm a mom, I have 3 beautiful girls and another one on the way. So life for me is always on the go, from making sure they are dressed and prepared for their day to making sure the house is tidy to achieving whatever God wants me to do, to collecting the girls from schools, feeding, entertaining, homework (if they get some) washing, getting ready for bed and so on. I'm sure you moms and dads out there would agree looking after Gods little miracles is never ending. Even for those of us that take care of a family member or even caring for a complete stranger, in all there is a lot of tasks to fit into one day. I'm not complaining, I absolutely adore my wonderful girls that God has blessed myself and my husband with. But this blog is about finding your oxygen.

Maybe your wondering what do I meaning finding my oxygen; I breath it in every day? which is a fair point we do, God has blessed us with the perfect amount of oxygen each day to keep us going from one thing to the next. Without it we would surely die. Praise God. So much to be thankful for.
Not quite the oxygen I was referring to. What I am referring to is figuratively speaking oxygen. Am I confusing you more? Well lets look into it.

Whether or not you've been on a plane, the flight attendance crew, go through the emergency protocol. One thing they speak about is when trouble arises and the oxygen masks fall down in front of you. You are advised to place your mask on before helping others i.e. a child, that is if you have come with children. You need your oxygen, before you can help others.

Lets look at adapting that to every day life. Well I've never come across a person who never gets overwhelmed, who never finds themselves so over worked they become exhausted. Like I mentioned before life has a funny habit of getting on top of us. We all come across tasks we need to do to functions, tasks we've been asked to do, tasks we promised we'd do. Our minds get bombarded with situations we've faced, or are facing, or we ponder on scenarios that could happen, but most likely never turn out the way we thought. I can not be the only one. Without Jesus I can't begin to image what kind of a place I would be in. Although five years ago God did show me in a dream, this dream was about what my life would have looked like if I hadn't chosen his will over mine. Not a dream I want to re-live.

On a Thursday, myself and my husband help run a playgroup, called little steps. After we had set up and people started to arrive, I had reached one of those overwhelming times, I could feel myself whelming up. Even smiling proved to be a difficult task. I couldn't bring words to the for front of my mouth. Thankfully the playgroup is run in the Church hall, with the church itself right next to it. So after my husband asking me if I was ok, which looking at me you could tell I wasn't, I just said I'm going to the church. Inside the church I sat down on one of the chairs, and just said 'Jesus I need you' for a while I just sat there in silence, while whatever was overwhelming me just washed away. Jesus knew everything going on in my mind and in my life. He knows exactly what I needed there and then. It's safe to say being still in the church brought me my few minutes to myself that I needed to get my oxygen. If I had stayed in the church hall and proceeded to the best of my ability when my oxygen tank was on low, I'd of burst into tears and only God knows what other reactions or words may have come also. A few minutes peace in the presence of God is all I needed to fill up my oxygen tank to be able to go back to the playgroup in the hall and be who Gods made me to be. Chatting to the moms and playing with the little ones.

I hope this is all making sense to you. For us to fully function as the Gods vessels in his mighty plan, we need our oxygen. Loving and helping others is what the bible asks us to do, but we can't do that when all our function levels are low. It is just a death wish. You're worth so much more than over working yourself, we need to know our limits. God knew we can only stretch ourselves so far, and that we need our moments to be still in him and allow him to wash us with his peace.
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.
So please take care of yourself, and make time for yourselves to just breath. There is nothing wrong with admitting you need a few moments. Don't run yourselves into the ground trying to please yourself, others and God. A healthy balance in life, means a happy functioning person. Be blessed.

Lets Pray.
Father thank you for your love for us. Lord help us to recognise when we need to fill up on our oxygen tanks and to just be still in your presence. When we are filled lord, help us to see and love people the way you see and love them. Help us to support them in times of need. Use us in your mighty will so our lives are pleasing to you and bring you the honour and the glory. Thank you for the things in life that we need such as oxygen, that keep us going and functioning. Everything on this planet that you designed to all work together for us to live, is such a blessing. You deserve all the praise and the glory. In Jesus name. Amen
