Do you ever find it difficult to give your all, your whole self? I know through work, it can be stressful and frustrating at times trying to give my everything to help people who don't appreciate it, or wish to return it. At times, people can even criticize you for it. However, how do we react in situations such as this? Jesus tells us to Turn the other cheek right? But if we turn our face each time someone hurts us, we become lesser and lesser, worn and beaten. The key is to turn the other cheek and act out of love, drawing strength from God, from those around us in order to be the better person, to help others see the right path.
Today's Gospel states:'"You have heard that it was said, `An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; 40and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; 41and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you' (Matthew 5:38-42).
Monday's are often tiresome, after a long weekend of busyness to have to start another week. Everyone is tired. But is this how we should embrace the day? To look at it as always tiresome, always dragging on? No, because then we give less and less of ourselves and become closed off from the world. We need to learn to ask God for strength to help us when we are weak and worn, when it seems impossible to face our neighbour and embrace the world around us in order to truly live in God's love. Take time today to pray for those who oppose you, for the strength to be happy and joyful even in the face of defeat.
Today's prayer comes from 'Pinterest Prayers', a prayer when feeling defeated:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Sometimes I feel utterly defeated. I fail people, I let them down, I let myself down, and the weight of it burdens my heart. I don’t like feeling like this. I don’t like feeling inadequate, unorganized, and overwhelmed. I lay my feelings before You and ask for Your help. Please comfort me and mend my heart. Replenish my confidence.  I pray that these defeating feelings will not hinder me in any way or keep me from continuing on.  I pray that I can overcome in Jesus’ name AMEN!
