Vikings offensive line coach Tony Sparano dies suddenly at age 56

Our condolences to the Sparano family and the Vikings organization.

This is supposed to be one of the most exciting parts of the year on the NFL calendar, with players and coaches reporting to training camp in the next few days. Unfortunately for the Minnesota Vikings, they will first have to deal with tragedy.

Vikings offensive line Coach Tony Sparano died unexpectedly on Sunday at the way-too-young age of 56. Sparano had been the Vikings offensive line coach since 2016. Prior to being hired to that position, Sparano was the head coach with the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2011 and was the interim head coach in Oakland for a season.

At this time, the cause of death is unknown, and the Sparano family has asked for privacy during this tough time, per the Vikings team website. Sparano is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and four grandchildren.

The Detroit Lions offered their condolences after this sudden tragedy.
