ARE YOU TOO BUSY?

Do you or anyone you know struggle with the problem of BUSYNESS? This may be a challenging issue to address because there are paybacks (sense of accomplishment, sense of self-worth) and in our society, we may wear it as a badge of honor. The thinking goes – the busier we are, the more successful/accomplished we probably are.

Possible signs of busyness:
You have a hard time sitting still & relaxing
You are avoiding feelings or issues
You talk about how busy you are A LOT!
It’s almost impossible to see yourself not busy (it may even terrify you a little)
Frequently thinking about what to do next
Feel guilty when you are not doing or accomplishing something
Sources of entertainment are TV or cell phone (especially social media)
Frequently feeling rushed

What is going to help you begin to make some changes? Let’s start with asking yourself some questions:
·        Why do I need to be busy?
·        What do I think I am getting by being busy?
·        What I am avoiding by being busy?
Next, observe what you are doing to be busy. Journaling may help uncover patterns and motives. Determine if it is an activity or behavior you want to continue.
For some, busyness is a worthiness issue. Set the intention of feeling worthy and accomplished without having to be busy.

Here are some other things to consider:
Make time for play & fun
Practice good self-care
Give yourself permission to say “No”
Take mini breaks often
Practice Mindfulness by being aware of your breath

The only way to become unbusy is to SLOW DOWN! Mindfulness can greatly help you to slow down. Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. (I am planning on writing an article on it soon, so come back to our blog.) Watch our YouTube video “Slow Down & Enjoy Life” by clicking here.
Staying unbusy is a life-long process that will require daily disciplines and a life-time commitment. For me personally, spirituality and maintaining a close relationship with God is the most important thing I can do to help me stay on track. Besides prayer and meditation, I read “Jesus Calling” every day. I always find a daily reminder that helps me keep the focus on Him and today!
