5 Ways to Honor Lost Loved Ones at Your Wedding

On such a beautiful day, it can be difficult to think of those that aren’t able to attend. It can be heartbreaking to experience such an important day without them. Whether it is your parent, sibling, grandparent, other close relative, or even a dear friend, celebrating your Wedding day can be bittersweet without them.

Marriage Advice for the Pastor

You don’t have to pretend to not think of them on your special day. In fact, there are many creative ways to honor them.

Here at Central Coast Bride, we understand how hard it is to not have your Loved ones present on your big day! That’s why we have gathered five ways in which you can honor lost loved ones at your own wedding. To gain some great inspiration, be sure to continue reading:

  • Special Heirlooms. Staying close to an item that your loved one adored can help you feel closer to them. For example, if there was a brooch or pocket watch that belonged to them, incorporate these heirlooms into your wedding. Adorn your bouquet with the brooch, or place the pocket watch within your pocket, so that you can carry a piece of them with you on your big day.
  • A Lovely Note. Sometimes, having everyone focus on your special someone can really put a loving emotion into the air. Create a note in your ceremony program as a way to bring attention to your lost loved one. This is a great way to bring the remembrance of that special someone to your wedding day.
  • Their Song. Was there a song that really meant a lot to your lost loved one? If so, you can play it during your reception with a dedication to them. Or, if the song is fitting for the moment, it can be chosen for your first dance, or even dances with your parents.
  • Sharing Your Memories. What is your absolute favorite memory that you have with your lost loved one? You can share this memory during your reception as a way to bring attention to the piece missing on your big day, and to share such a loving emotion with everyone else. It will certainly bring a smile to everyone’s face!
  • A Display of Photos. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Displaying your favorite photos of your lost loved one will allow them to be present in everyone’s thoughts as they view them. You can also save them a seat at your wedding ceremony, right up front, by displaying their photo among it, so that you can feel as though their presence is there as you vow your love to your partner.
