My Best Moments in 2017

Hi friends, and happy December!

Although I feel like I’ve been on a bit of a blogging hiatus this year, I can’t let the end of the year come and go with out recounting some of my favorite moments of the year in one massive roundup/catchup post.  I know that 2017 was an exhausting year for most of us, but there was still goodness that came over the past 12 months, right?

Grab a cup of coffee, or a big old glass of wine and let’s have a little recap of 2017.

Are you in?

Iceland Adventures for My Birthday

As I said previously, Iceland was inspiring and amazing  – and it was even better to experience the Icelandic magic on my birthday.  And even better? Meeting some sweet Icelandic ponies right there in the middle of nowhere.  It was a beautifully surreal experience, and I absolutely loved it.  The scale of Iceland was awe inspiring – and reminded me how wonderfully big the world is.

Tuscan Sunsets on our Anniversary

This year, we were lucky to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary in Tuscany at a beautiful AirBnB that gave us incredible sunsets each and very night.  During our time in Tuscany, we explored Florence but we also visited small medieval towns a bit off the tourist track – like Volterra and San Gimigano –  which was simply wonderful. I was mesmerised by the cathedrals of Siena, the narrow alley ways and the old cobbled stone pathways.   And can we talk about the fresh food and cheap wine? I am ready to pack my bags now to return.

Embarking on a Wellness Journey

In July, I had a moment when I realised I needed to improve my health and overall well being.  I started small – with counting my steps and tracking my meals.  Gradually, I added more cardio and strength training, waking up early for morning workouts and drinking a ton of water. Slow and steady wins the health race, and now after 5 months of hard work, I have made it to my 40lbs milestone mark!  The exciting thing isn’t the scale – but instead how I feel with more energy and confidence  which improve each and everyday.  Embarking on my journey was easily one of the best moments of 2017.

Gonzaga at Final Four

In April, I was able to tick a big bucket list item off – to see Gonzaga University play in the National Championship game.  I have been a GU basketball fan for about 17 years (geesh, time flies – right?!), and when they made it to their first Final Four game – I knew I had to be there.  And with the support of the best husband ever – and some amazing friends – I was able to make it happen.  The short (and very last minute trip) was an absolute whirlwind, but I loved every second of the magical bucket list experience.

Starting My Joy Jar

In January, I started my very own Joy Jar where I make a note of memorable moments – small and big.  And during the year, when I’ve had days where I felt stressed or exhausted I would dip into my joy jar for a bit of a pick me up.  When we travel, I jot down moments in a notebook to make sure I don’t miss any! I will be keeping up my joy jar next year- but keeping the notes from the year as well!

Theatre Dates in the West End

Every once in a while I travel down to London for work – which has given me the chance to head out for date nights with myself in the West End.  I’ll hop on the Underground, and without any real plans randomly see what show I am inspired to see.  It’s a bit of a spontaneous treat, but it’s been wonderful to experience live theatre – seeing  Wicked, Kinky Boots and Dreamgirls in London.

Countless Days Out in Wales

One thing will never change is how much we love to get out and explore the beautiful country of Wales.  From lighthouses to beaches, castles to abbeys – rolling green hills and rugged mountains – we’ve explored it all and I’ve loved it each adventure.  Living in Wales reminds me to get outside,  to go for a walk or a hike and to appreciate natural beauty at each and every turn. No matter the weather or season, we believe in getting out for the day for fresh air and big skies.  Oh, and it’s always fun when we find dog friendly adventures – because it isn’t the same without Freddy!  (I promise I will be writing more about my love affair with Wales in 2018!)

Playing Tour Guide to My Sister

My younger sister Becky has visited us here in Wales more than once, but this year was the first time that she visited in summer.  We went camping (!), exploring castles, experienced sunsets and the lovely Welsh coastline.

Christmas in America

Can I put something on my ‘Best of’ list that hasn’t happened yet? Yeah, I think so.  Later this week, we are heading to Seattle for Christmas.  On the agenda is catching up with family and friends, plus having wonderful tourist-y moments like going up the Space Needle and Pike Place Market.  As always, keep your eyes peel on Instagram for the adventures!

Tell me friends, what was one highlight from 2017? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear from you!
