A pair of Cincinnati brewers won big at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver this year.

Brink Brewing and MadTree Brewing both notched major medal wins at the massive annual Beer competition.

Brink Brewing not only won silver for “Hold the Reins,” in the English-Style Mild Ale category, they also won gold for “Moozie” in the Sweet Stout or Cream Stout category.

But to cap off those two wins, they also were named the 2018 Very Small Brewery of the Year.

Co-founder Andrew McCleese said, “It’s what we came to do when we opened.” Head brewer & co-founder Kelly Montgomery quickly followed that up saying, “I have no words.”

After five years of competing, MadTree Brewing also took home a medal. They won gold in the Extra Special Bitter category for their mainstay “Happy Amber.”

“We’re beyond excited to win the gold for Happy Amber. This was one of the original three beer recipes we brewed in our basement. In typical MadTree fashion, we brewed it 30+ times to dial in the perfect balance of flavors. We’ve always stood behind Happy Amber so it’s really gratifying to see it recognized as one of the best beers in the country.,” MadTree co-founder Brady Duncan said.

While Happy Amber might be flowing aplenty at MadTree, if you want to sample Moozie and Hold the Reins from Brink, you better get to the brewery quick.

While Brink and MadTree were the big winners for the Greater Cincinnati area; Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky all saw breweries take home some hardware.
