92 new air routes for North East announced

Under Government’s Udaan scheme, 92 new Air Routes will be opened in North East. This will provide a boost to connectivity in the region.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha has announced a bi-weekly Air India flight from Delhi to Imphal from January next year.

It would be made a daily flight if the demand picks up.

Indigo airlines will also start a flight between Guwahati to Silchar and Aizwal.

Spicejet will acq1uire seaplanes which could seat 9-10 passengers which could land on smaller airstrips.

“The carrier is buying a large number of these seaplanes and is looking to operate in the Northeast, connecting smaller airstrips. These planes will accommodate about 9-10 people. This will also improve connectivity in the Northeast,” Sinha said.

The construction of the Pakyong airport in Sikkim is nearing completion which will make the connectivity to the region easier.

Udaan is a central government scheme under which remote areas are provided air connectivity.
