Ukraine is still a priority for the daily work of the ECMI

In addition to the centre`s recent activities in Ukraine, ECMI minority-experts presented a study commissioned by the Council of Europe in Kyiv/ Ukraine this month (March 5th).

The joint study on national minority governance in Ukraine has been produced by ECMI Director Prof. Malloy, Senior Research Associate Dr. Ljubica Đorđević-Vidojković and ECMI Representative Nataliia Mekahal. The study mapped executive structures and consultative mechanisms for national minorities in Ukraine and put them into an international perspective. As a result, 15 recommendations have been developed for improvements that could contribute to better legal and institutional frameworks for national minorities in Ukraine.

“Building a comprehensive minority governance model and securing equitable minority representation in territorial governance”, “to ensure equality of all minority groups at the central level and to ensure clear delegation of powers in sensitive areas” is only a small abstract of the general, policy and technical recommendations the three ECMI experts gave.
