Prison visiting and dementia - From a former prisoner

Hi to all Prison Widow UK readers.
I would like to thank you for raising awareness on dementia.
When I was doing time in prison; my Mother used to Visit me and she had dementia. It was a difficult visit because we had no idea what to talk about and when we did talk, my mother only spoke of her mother (my grandmother) whom she thought was still alive. My sister would always bring mum to visit me but after ten minutes, mum just wanted to go home saying her mother was waiting for her and that if she didn't go home soon, she would get in to trouble.
It was hard on my sister because she had travelled over an hour to see me and once mum had it in her head that she needed to go home; our visits were often cut short because my sister had no choice but to take mum home because she became agitated and stressed. I think prisoners families with dementia and prisoners need more support during visits. But thanks again for raising this awareness because it is so important.
Best wishes and respect your way
