Discrimination Against the Poor

There is systemic Prejudice in this Country against the Poor. If I had all the job skills required for a particular position, but showed up for the interview in smelly clothes because I can't afford a house or laundry or whatever, I wouldn't get that job in this country. And based on my skill set, it would mean I was discriminated against on the basis of Economic Class. There are provisions in this country to protect against prejudice based on race or gender. But what about economic class? Why is it okay to discriminate against someone for being poor? I am actually currently looking into creating a referendum for this in Denver. I would like to make it Colorado law to be unable to discriminate against someone for economic status.
