Interlude: Sister Marie Charles Park

One of my favorite parks in St. Louis is one of its least known (perhaps, more than a little responsible for its allure). Sister Marie Charles Park is a sliver of greenspace at the base of a bluff along the Mississippi River in Carondelet, in the city’s far south side.  It offers one of my favorite views of downtown (see above), and provides a pacifying view of the river with tugboats and towboats gently chugging by.

I go to the Park usually to gather my thoughts.  It’s generally pretty quiet and I often have it all to myself.  Recently, I discovered that the Park is a bit of a cruising destination for casual sex.  I stumbled upon an overgrown section with some trash and a couch (where these acts apparently occur), and it was a realization that slowly dawned on me as I noticed some people nearby waiting to enter.  A quick Google search later, and my suspicion was confirmed.

This was a bit of a disappointment, and I won’t be taking my son their anymore, but I don’t know that it negates the Park’s other charms.
