This is a short post purely to share some images.

I’ve spent several mornings in Richmond Park over the last six weeks or so, mainly to photograph the Deer during the autumn rut – the time of year when red deer stags and fallow deer bucks fight for dominance and the right to mate with the female hinds and does respectively.

It’s important to state that welfare of the deer should be your primary concern when photographing them, with safety of yourself and others a very close second. Keep your distance (park staff recommend 50 metres) and use a long focal length lens to capture images safely. Certainly DO NOT use a drone to get close, aerial views of the deer. Drones are extremely noisy up close and the disturbance can interfere with natural behaviour and even affect breeding. Flying of drones in Richmond Park is only permitted on the flying field, which is near Roehampton Gate.

All images were made with the Fujifilm X-T1 and the excellent XF 50-140mm f/2.8 lens with a 1.4x teleconverter.
