Teresa, a 2- year-old mixed breed dog with half a face, found a new forever home in the USA. Teresa was rescued from Thailand in January after a man tried and failed to kill her. The attack left Teresa without a nose and part of her top jaw missing.
One of the women who rescued Teresa, Karen Quigly said, “Unfortunately in Thailand people do eat dog meat, and a person had a machete and he was trying to cut her head off.”
Facebook helped Teresa for surgery
With the help from Facebook, friends and a GoFoundMe account. Karen Quigley and her friend Michelle Weirich raised over $11,000. They used the money to bring Teresa to the United States for Surgery. Teresa required surgery to repair her teeth and tongue.
“She can do everything and that’s what’s so remarkable about Teresa. She eats hard food, she eats wet food; really I haven’t found anything she can’t do. She’s so amazing because she’s really so happy. She wakes up happy. She loves to run in the yard,” said Quigley.
Dr. John Lewis of Northstar Vets in Robbinsville, who did the surgery on Teresa said that the dog despite the cosmetic issues, has recovered well and doing good.
“She can always breathe through her mouth, but the fact she can breathe through her nose just increases her quality of life. She’s able to eat and drink, can play with toys, so that’s the important thing.” said Dr. John Lewis.
What’s in future for Teresa?
With the help of a special –ed teacher at Rowan College, Teresa might just get certified as a Therapy dog to help disfigured kids at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to cope with dis-figuration.
DOG WITH HALF A FACE RECOVERING: Teresa was rescued from Thailand where she was mutilated by a man who wanted to kill her to eat. She was rescued and is now living in So. Jersey recovering from surgery.
