Pet lovers help clean up Australia this Sunday

This Sunday, the 5th of March 2017, signals the time when all Australians are encouraged to pop on some gloves, roll up those sleeves and Clean Up Australia!

“With Clean Up Australia Day happening this Sunday, Pet Insurance Australia are asking all pet owners to do their bit to keep Australia clean,” Nadia Crighton says. “For dog owners, this can be as simple as taking a rubbish bag with you on your journey and cleaning up your local area.”

According to Ian Kiernan AO, founder and chairman of Clean Up Australia, all Australians need to do their bit throughout the year to keep on top of the litter in their local environment. Pet owners are in a great position to do a little bit every day when out and about on their daily excursions alongside their pets.

“When you go for a walk, don’t just pick up your own rubbish, pick up a few pieces of litter while you are at it,” says Mr Kiernan.

He also reminds all Australians that while we celebrate Clean Up Australia Day once a year, we really should be diligent throughout the year to stay on top of the litter that accumulates in our local parks, bushland, roadways and waterways.

Pet Insurance Australia is also reminding dog owners to pick up their poop and dispose of their bags correctly.

“It’s no surprise to many dog owners to see those blue poop bags around parklands and in overflowing bins at off-leash areas,” Crighton says. “We are urging all dog owners to be proactive and report over-flowing bins to council, or lack of bins at off-leash areas.”

HOW TO HELP

  • Dispose of poo bags correctly or take it with you
  • Pick up a bag of rubbish on your walk
  • Report overflowing or lack of bins to council
  • Encourage the family to pick up rubbish

“We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful country,” Crighton says. “If everyone pitches in and helps with a little bit of elbow grease we can keep Australia looking amazing for many generations to come.”
