Newborn kitten care means ensuring that the kittens are growing correctly. Usual weight of the kitten is 100 grams at birth. Kittens who weigh less than 90 grams at birth can die within the first days of their life. The minimum weight gain must be at least 7 to 10 grams everyday, even if they are more likely to lose their weight in the first 24 hours after their birth. Weight of a kitten must double within the first 14 days of their life. Kittens must be weighed on regular basis for minimum first 2 weeks and afterwards 2 to 3 times a week until weaning a kitten. Reduction in weight gain is one of the most common symptoms of sickness in many kittens.

Creating a nest for a kitten is another crucial aspect of kitten care. You can use a carrier for giving them protection with soft blankets inside. Nest has to be warm. You can do it by placing a lamp over the carrier.

Feeding a kitten as it grows to adulthood is easy through bottle feed or tube feed. They need an exact amount of food per weight. You should talk about how much you need to feed with your vet. You can also learn how to tube feed your kitten, from your vet. Talking about kitten adaptation, they have claws for hunting the prey and defense.

Knowing whether kittens are getting sufficient food to eat is another crucial part of kitten care. It is very useful to understand the needs of a kitten to give them the best start in their life. You must weigh your kitten regularly to have a record of their growth for ensuring they are putting on some weight every day. This allows you know they are getting sufficient food to eat.
