We have been Camping many times with our dog, Rocket. Living in Utah gives us the opportunity to visit spectacular places without having to drive for days.  Stunning red rocks, thick forests and crystal clear lakes are some of the many places we have camped. Bringing your dog camping is a great experience for both of you but it definitely can be a bit more challenging.  After many ups and downs, we have finally figured out what gear makes camping with dogs a success. Your list may be slightly different based on your dog's breed and preferences, but this is a good starting point.

Here is our Top 10 list of gear for camping with dogs.

#1 Portable Pet Pen

Out of all the gear you could bring for your dog, this is by far my most recommended product. The portable pet pen by Carlson will make your life SO MUCH EASIER. If you're anything like me, finding a safe place to keep your dog while setting up and taking down camp is a struggle. I don't want to leave my dachshund in the car because all the doors are wide open while unloading. I also don't want to tie him up to a tree. This pet pen gives your dog the freedom to move around while being safely contained. It sets up instantly and is lightweight which is why you need to add this pet pen to your must-have list. Use an outdoor pet bed like this one inside the pen for a comfy place for your dog to relax.

#2 Harness

Finding a harness that fits well, and holds up to all of our adventures can sometimes be a struggle. Out of all the harnesses I have tried, this one by Kurgo is the best. It's made of a super durable material that's breathable and padded for comfort. Getting a perfect fit is easy because it has four adjustment points. I also love that it has a sturdy handle on the top so I can easily lift my dog over big rocks or fast-moving water. Pair this with a lightweight leash and be sure to attach your dog's ID tags.

#3 PawTection

I have been using this product for years and never go camping without it. PawTection is an all-natural, vegan blend of waxes and oils that creates a barrier between your dog's paws and the elements. It's kind of like invisible shoes for your dog. I also use Paw Soother which is a great healing balm if your dog gets a cut or thorn in their paw.

#4 Dog Backpack

If you have a small or medium-sized dog, the K9 Sport Sack is amazing. If you're camping, chances are you will be doing some hiking as well. My husband and I love to hike with our dachshund. If he becomes tired or gets too hot, we put him in the backpack and he loves it. Rocket is forward facing in the bag which allows him to look over my shoulder and see the sights. It's also great for taking your dog on bike rides or shopping.

#5 Dog Coat

Nights can be cold while camping. Somehow, we always manage to get rain everytime we camp. This raincoat is a camping must-have because it will keep your dog warm and dry when the weather doesn't cooperate. Plus, your dog will look so cute. Voyager K9 makes custom fit jackets for every kind of dog breed ensuring a perfect fit. I pair this raincoat with the Tummy Warmer, so Rocket stays extra warm. He even wears the Tummy Warmer at night as Pajamas to keep him nice and toasty.

#6 Travel Shower

Small and simple but once you use it, you'll never go camping without it. Simply attach the Travel Shower to any water bottle and voila! Goodbye dirty paws.

#7 Travel Bowls

This Kibble Carrier and Collaps A Bowl are perfect for camping. The Kibble Carrier holds up to 5lbs. of food, has a zippered side pocket for treats and keeps the bugs out. Collaps A Bowl holds up to 24 ounces of water and is so tiny when collapsed, it fits nearly everywhere.

#8 Dog Treats

Rocket knows we are going somewhere fun when I pull out the Zuke's treats. Because these treats are small, I can give them to Rocket throughout the day. They are healthy and packed with vitamins and minerals. A perfect snack while lounging at camp or out adventuring.

#9 Grooming Wipes

Camping is dirty. Your dog will get dirty. These Grooming Wipes are the best thing since sliced bread and I always keep a couple packs of these with my camping gear. They are hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free making them perfect for sensitive skin or allergies.

#10 Poop Bags

Don't leave home without 'em! These bags can also double as garbage bags for the campsite or your car. We use Earth Rated Poop Bags.

Hammock for chillaxing

Not necessarily a camping essential, but let's be real.  Hammock naps are the best naps. Especially with your pup by your side. We have the ENO Doublenest Hammock.

Camping with your dog is a great way to bond and spend quality time together. Wherever you may be camping, I hope you and your furry best friend have a wonderful adventure.
