Dog Books, Heroic Canines, and Rosie the Cat

Another dog book. How exciting.
To Rosie's chagrin, I love Dog books. Not that I don't also love cat books, I do, but truth be told, I have lots more dog books than cat books. When I was recently contacted to review Rebecca Ascher-Walsh's new Book Loyal: 38 Inspiring Tales of Bravery, Heroism, and the Devotion of Dogs, I was over the moon - and so was Rosie (not).

Loyal: 38 Inspiring Tales of Bravery, Heroism, and the Devotion of Dogs features canine heroes who provide emotional comfort, medical support, humane education, life-saving rescue, and military service in the United States as well as around the world. With beautiful photography and heartwarming stories, this is a book you can read all at once or leave on your nightstand for when you need a smile (or a few tears) at the end of a long day.

Reading about Patches, the therapy dog
From a German shepherd who leads a blind man in his first marathon to a cattle dog who helps locate endangered species to a little terrier mix who detects severe allergic reactions, these extraordinary dogs go above and beyond the call of duty and will restore your faith and hope - something many of us need in these anxious times. For dog lovers (as well as anyone in need of some basic goodness), these stories are a celebration of life and all things canine.

Author Rebecca Ascher-Walsh is a writer who specializes in celebrity and lifestyle coverage, but also really loves dogs. She contributes to many newspapers and national magazines like Entertainment Weekly and the Los Angeles Times. In her spare time, she is a volunteer at a high-kill shelter in Manhattan and also a founding director of the Deja Foundation, an organization devoted to funding the medical care and training costs for dogs rescued from high-kill shelters.

Ruby dreams of being a hero one day
The 38 dogs featured in Loyal represent all walks of canine life from pure breeds to rescue mutts, young and old, small and large. Yet, they all share an unwavering dedication to service and an unselfish commitment to helping others. Cheers to dogs and dog books!

Loyal: 38 Inspiring Tales of Bravery, Heroism, and the Devotion of Dogs makes a perfect gift for dog lovers or anyone in need of some joy and light. Remember Mother's Day and Father's Day are right around the corner!
