Puppy Galore…

Hello again, I am now going to continue writing about the time with my dogs!!

Here is Honey pre-pregnancy

I still couldn’t believe my eyes at the amount of pups that lay with Honey in front of me! There was at least four or five. The only negative aspect was that we had school that day. Honey was still giving birth to the last few puppies as we were in school. I will never forget the fact that my mom continuously sent all of us texts as to how Honey was coping throughout the day. It lifted a great deal of stress off my shoulders to know that she was doing well. By the time we got home, there were twelve pups!!

Honey’s tiresome twelve!

For the next few hours, my siblings and began to help in any way we could with Honey and the puppies. My mom actually gave a big hand in helping Honey with the birthing process! There was one thing that I noticed when I got back from school that I did not notice in the morning; Honey’s weight. Honey was quite rotund while she was pregnant, and now we knew why! Honey ‘s condition had changed dramatically , from a protruding stomach to severely skinny. It was a worrisome as she looked exhausted with little to no energy. Since Honey had such a large litter, all her energy went into looking after the puppies. There were a few essential foods that kept Honey’s energy levels up enough for her to provide for the pups. Such as raw egg and milk mixed together and light pieces of meat etc.  We had to help Honey with feeding the puppies after a while. As Honey grew tired, my mom would lend a hand and take over.

Here are just two of the adorable puppies that Honey had!!

And then there were eleven…..

It was a few hours after Honey had given birth that we noticed something very wrong with one of the puppies. He was struggling to eat and he was barely moving. He was one of the last to be born and so he didn’t get a chance to reach honey for food quickly. My mom made sure that he got extra attention and that he received extra food and water. We bought a special UV lamp to try to warm him up. It was to no avail, though. He passed away three days after he was born. It was heartbreaking for everyone in the family. Since Honey had so many pups you would not have thought that she could have noticed his absence that much. She did. She began to whine and she started to sniff all her pups to check if she missed him. Unfortunately, the pup passed away while my  siblings and I were at school so we did not have to go through the initial shock. Later that night, we placed him in a small shoe-box, dug a small hole in the back garden, and placed him in the hole. We had to wait for my dad to come home from work so we could give him a burial that he deserved. I was an emotional wreck, as were my siblings and my mother. About six/seven years ago, we buried our beloved Corry. She had been in the family since before I was born. She meant the world to me. We knew that she would look after him in doggy heaven.  Her grave was right next to the pups. The situation was made even worse by the fact that we hadn’t had the chance to name him. He was a beautiful pup.

Until next time my fellow dog lovers!!!
