Long Term Care Homes and What to Look For!

I came across a useful booklet called “Thinking about Long Term Care” the other day, which I think is very good. In fact, I recommend it to anyone contemplating Long Term Care, whether for themselves or for a loved one who might benefit from it.

The booklet contains a wealth of practical ideas complemented by an extensive list of contact numbers. At its heart, it speaks of the characteristics that every decent long term care home should have. I liked these thoughts so much that I decided to summarise them here.

Grab Factor – does it feel good and fresh and clean and happy? Is there a positive atmosphere throughout?

Staffing – Do the staff take time to genuinely care for and love the residents? If they’re rushing everywhere there may not be enough of them. Ask why.

Accessibility – Is the home close enough for friends and family members to visit regularly? What are the home’s requirements when they do?

Rooms – Are they sufficiently spacious to add a cherished piece of furniture, admit a visitor, or perhaps share a private meal? Do they feel like homes from home? What about the facilities?

Right to be Different – Will it be possible to continue with a favourite hobby? Are there places to be alone too, when that’s the resident’s preference?

You’ll find a great deal more valuable information when you download “Thinking about Long Term Care” for free. Alternatively, visit Paying for Care for more free support and useful answers on the difficult topic of long term care.
