Prime Day 2019: When to Shop, Where to Shop & What to Expect

Everyone's favorite "Black Friday in July" shopping event is back for 2019! Amazon finally made the announcement, and...

Prime Day deals will begin on Monday July 15, 2019 at 12am PT. The event concludes on Tuesday July 16at 11:59pm PT.

That means we can expect 48 solid hours of Prime Day deals beginning at midnight on the 15th and continuing through July 16, 2019 – twelve hours longer than in 2018.

“Get ready, as we pull back the curtain to reveal exclusive products, special performances and two full days of phenomenal deals this Prime Day,” said Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer. “Our vision is that Prime Day should be the absolute best time to be a member – when you can enjoy shopping, savings, entertainment and some of the best deals Prime members have ever seen. Stay tuned as we reveal exclusive savings at Whole Foods Market, thousands of new product launches, as well as world-class entertainment and more, leading up to Prime Day on July 15 and 16.”

What to expect from Prime Day deals in 2019.

Remember, these offers will only be available to Amazon Prime subscribers. If you don't have a membership, you can grab a 30-day free trial to cash in on the fun, or sign up for a 1-month subscription for $12.99, or $6.49 for students. (Read up on all of our favorite Amazon perks here.)

In addition to the standard run of website deals, shoppers can expect special deals available only through Alexa. If you've been thinking about an Alexa-enabled device, we advise holding out for Prime Day – last year, Amazon dropped the price of the Echo from $99.99 to $69.99. Amazon wants to use this shopping event to reel in new year-round members and push its smart home devices, so the incentives to join up will be very, very good.

Amazon's Prime Day press release goes a lot further than merely announcing the dates, of course. We also get a sneak peek at some of the deals you can expect to see. Better yet, some are available beginning today!

Prime Day deals available now include:

  • Toshiba HD 43-Inch Fire TV Edition Smart TV – $179.99 through 6/30 (reg. $299.99)
  • Rent Jordan Peele's Us (starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss) at Prime Video for $2.99

Other deals and product launches highlighted in the Prime Day press release include:

  • Jabra Elite85h wireless headphones
  • iOttie Easy One Touch Connect smartphone car mount
  • Limited edition FEED natural canvas totes – every bag purchased donates 10 meals to No Kid Hungry's free school breakfast program
  • 24 new JoJo Siwa products from Nickelodeon
  • Special edition Schwinn electric bike
  • Collaborations with Levi's and Hanna Andersson

Don't limit yourself to Amazon!

Some of the best deals to come out of Prime Day won't be at Amazon. For the last few years, just about everyone with an online shopping cart has rolled out their own "These Are Obviously Not Prime Day Sales" sales, many lasting through the entire week. Let's put it this way: There's no way that anyone in ecommerce is about to sit back and let Amazon have all the glory.

Target has been known to leverage the week to launch its back-to-school sales, Macy's has run with Black Friday in July, and JCPenney got in on the bargain week game as well. We typically see deals like 30% off at Crocs, $48 UGG boots at Macy's, 25% off at shopDisney, and so much more. This event gets bigger every year as Prime Day increasingly establishes itself as the definitive summer version of Black Friday – and 2019 will not disappoint.
