Sarah’s 30th Birthday

It’s April 18th! Today would have been Sarah’s 30th birthday if she was still with us. Obviously I wanted to mark the occasion with the kids but again, just like on Mothers Day, I didn’t want to overwhelm them too much so we kept things fairly simple.

In the morning we opened Birthday cards for her which the kids had written in (the kids that are old enough to write, anyway) and stood them up either side of the scatter tube that houses her ashes, on the fireplace. The kids also placed a small teddy bear beside ‘the Mummy garden’ out the front.

Yesterday we got some helium balloons to release, so we headed to Normanston Park armed with a picnic and released them for her. On the way, Lacey wanted to show the boys exactly where Mummy’s headstone is going to be, and they approved.

Later in the afternoon we lit candles on a cake and sang happy birthday to her, and eventually we decided to go out for a meal which we always did without fail on Sarah’s birthdays.

All in all I think the kids have handled the day remarkably well, I’m so very proud of them all, just as their Mummy would be. Here’s a little video of our day.
