Top 10 Modern Train Table Ideas and Uses

Tags: table train kid

When you hear the words train table, you along with many others may think it’s a table made specifically for trains, right? On the contrary, this just isn’t the case. Train tables are perfect for trains, but as you’ll see below, you can use them for so many other activities and long past your child’s ‘train set’ years.

  1. As many parents have found, a modern kids train table is fantastic for Lego and other building blocks. If your child is a builder, you’ll love the fact that the blocks stay off the floor keeping the room looking much neater and tidier along with not having to worry about stepping on the small pieces that hurt!
  2. Use it for play cooking sets and play food. Kids love to play like they are cooking and serving food. It makes a great restaurant table to serve food to customers.
  3. Racetracks also fit perfectly on train tables. Electric car tracks and also car tracks that need kids to power vehicle movement move smoothly around the flat tabletop area.
  4. Placing a chalkboard on top will allow kids to have a place to write and erase as much as they’d like. Kids can learn to write their ABCs then move on to learn cursive writing or show their creativity while drawing.
  5. Letters and numbers such as magnetic ones work fantastic on train tables. While the table itself may not be magnetic, your refrigerator will be less cluttered making you happy while giving the kids a new place to play with their numbers and letters.
  6. Decorating during the holidays can be fun for kids who like to have their own Christmas village. Many parents have expensive sets, so why not get a cheaper set for your kids and allow them to create their own winter wonderland through the month of December!
  7. Have you ever played marbles? They are so much fun but can be hard to play on floors and often get lost and dirty outside. Using a train table with sides keeps the marbles from rolling all over the floor while you and your child play a fun new game together.
  8. Create a zoo! Play zoos are not only fun to play with, but they are great learning tools. Kids can learn about animal habitats and unique animals they’ve never encountered in person. Set up toy bushes, trees, ponds, deserts, walkways, and so much more to get your child learning and having fun!
  9. As kids grow, their toys change. Some of these toys have to be constructed and often takes days to finish such as roller coasters, marble runs, working motors, and others that have hundreds of pieces. Using one of these tables keeps the pieces together and protects their projects from being stepped on.
  10. Last, but not least, we love using train tables for puzzles. Whether puzzles contain 24 pieces or 500, you can rest assured that no pieces will get lost and you can still sweep the floor without worrying about sweeping up a lost puzzle piece.
  11. BONUS – Dollhouses work great on the multi-purpose tables that we often refer to as train tables.

As you can see, choosing a train table doesn’t limit you to just trains. They also make great additions to any child’s room or a playroom. The versatility can’t be beaten, so enjoy the ideas and uses above as your child grows!  And, if you are a little more space conscious then you might go for the smaller Arch Activity Table.
