Last Monday was my birthday!!! My Birthday is always a day of reflection. Through social media and technology, I am reminded me that friendship is powerful. Since friendships are entirely voluntary relationships, I am always touched when I get a note, call or Facebook post honoring my day. Through songs, gifts and hugs, my family goes out of their way to show me that they care.
I was fortunate to get over 200 birthday wishes on social media. The fact that people took time out of their day to wish me well reminds me of all of the wonderful relationships I have made over my lifetime. I have moved away from my hometown, attended college and graduate school in other states and now make Pittsburgh my home. People from each phase of my life honored me with a birthday wish. That made it even more special.
I woke up on my birthday and my children were healthy, happy, and glad to see me. My sister, Reenah, was here and helped make the morning routine easier. And my sister, Jeryn, was here in spirit and sent me the most luxurious blanket, which I used to envelope me while I slept. Those punctuated the blessings that my mother began the prior weekend when she spoiled me by taking care of me and my kids. She even watched them that Sunday while Andre and I went out to dinner. Every day is a gift, but this birthday was extra special!
When I went to bed on November 5th, I exhaled and proclaimed, "Today was a good day!!!"
I am grateful to greet another year!
