We made the decision many years ago not to have cable in our home.  That decision was made because we felt much of what was on television these days was not something we wanted in our home.  Even if you are watching a perfectly clean show the commercials are enough (or should be) to make you cringe.  I think no matter how hard we may try we are influenced by these things.  Slowly things start to not seem quite as shocking anymore and we get a little bit more "comfortable" with things we shouldn't.  Now, don't take this the wrong way.  I'm not looking down on anyone who does choose to watch TV.  I do watch TV when at others homes and I watch plenty of TV shows via Netflix minus the commercials. This is just a decision that we have chosen for our Family and what we want our children to be exposed and influenced by in our own home.  Everyone's personal decisions are and should be based on what is right for their family :)  I do watch a lot of traditional shows on Netflix but we also own and watch many videos that aren't quite as common. I thought I would share a few of my favorites...

First is Little House on the Prairie.  I have to say this is probably the most watched of all our videos.  My children watch them over and over again.  My little girls dress up and pretend to be Laura and Mary all the time.  They represent a God loving family who works hard together but manages to keep a smile even during hard times.  Those are the kind of examples we want in front of our children's eyes.

If someone asked me what my all time favorite movie was this would probably be right toward the top.   Facing the Giants is all about learning to put God first in our life and give him the glory in all things.  I find it very inspiring.  Here is a little clip if you aren't familiar with it already:

Another favorite is Flywheel.  It is one of the earlier movies done by the same people who did Facing the Giants.  It's about a dad who learns about honesty and putting family first.  Very heartwarming and encouraging!  Here is a little clip from that one:

A Journey Home is another of our absolute favorites.  Not because it's full of action and adventure but because it really represents what my husband and I long for.  It's about a large family that choose to step away from the traditional "rat race" and moved to the country where they worked together on a farm.  It's about putting God and family above all else.   Here is a look at that one:

The Homestead Blessing Videos are watched over and over again in our home. They are a delightful series done by a Godly mom and her daughters. They live on a off grid homestead in TN and share their knowledge generously. We have been inspired to try many a new thing thanks to the West Ladies. Here
is a peek at one of their videos:

I hope you enjoyed taking a little look into our favorite movies.  I know we are far from "normal" in our choices but that's ok.  The world would be a very boring place if we all shared the same interests now wouldn't it :)
