Best Baby Nasal Aspirator To Clear Blocked Nose

A sniffling and nose-blocked Baby is one of the worst thing to experience in motherhood. Not only are you dealing with a cranky and (sometimes) inconsolable baby, you have to go through the heartache of hearing your little one wheeze and struggling to breathe and you feel helpless at the side.

While it is hard enough for us adults to deal with a blocked nose, babies have it harder because they don't know how to blow their own nose for some relief and comfort. This is when you should get a nasal aspirator.

1. What is a nasal aspirator

A baby nasal aspirator is basically like a snot vacuum for babies. It is a device which allows parents to clear their baby's sensitive/blocked nasal passages in a safe and gentle way.

They usually come with a mouthpiece on one end while a nozzle is fixed at the other end, both connected by a piece of soft tubing in the middle.

How it works is that parents suck on the mouthpiece and the suction motion will remove mucus and other discharge from your baby's nose, thereby allowing him/her to breathe more easily and comfortably. It is the best way to clean baby's nose, hygienically.

2. Should I get a nasal aspirator

Yes, you should!

There is bound to be a time in your parenthood journey whereby your baby will experience a blocked nose of some degree and you will need one to help give him/her some relief.

You may be tempted to just stick to the nasal decongestant for babies your hospital provides during your hospital stay, but let us tell you, those are not as good quality, and certainly not meant to be used more than once, let alone something you should rely on throughout your little one's babyhood.

There are many nasal aspirators in the market but what is the best nasal aspirator for baby? Read our best baby nasal aspirator reviews below to find out more!

3. Top 3 Best Nasal Aspirator

1. Best Baby Nose Aspirator

FridaBaby NoseFrida "The SnotSucker" Nasal Aspirator

No surprise there, the NoseFrida Nasal Aspirator from Fridababy is hands down the best nose suction for babies in the market! There are many nosefrida reviews out there, but here's our take on it.

Invented by a doctor and most recommended by doctors all around the world, this aptly (albeit slightly unpleasant sounding) named The SnotSucker is the best baby nose aspirator that works

Unlike most nasal aspirators, this one does not require it to be placed inside the nostril, but against it. All you have to do then is just suck on the BPA and phthalate-free mouthpiece to get all the nastiness out of your baby's blocked nose. Don't worry, they won't go into your mouth because as you can see from the picture above, boogers get trapped inside the catcher.

Mucus will be kept from travelling up the nose hose by the filter and this is disposable to prevent any bacterial transfer. This package comes with 20 hygiene filters, so that should keep you going for awhile. If you ever run out of supply, they are available for sale separately at a very affordable price point.

What we like about the Nosefrida SnotSucker is that you can see what goes on when you suck on the mouthpiece because the tubing is clear. You will be amazed seeing just how effective it clears up your baby's nose in seconds, and it also lets you know when to stop when the content comes out clear.

Overall, the NoseFrida SnotSucker is the best snot remover for babies. We would recommend getting the Fridababy Saline Snot Spray together to get optimum results as it helps soften up stubborn boogies and stuffy noses - the best baby aspirator will be rendered useless if there's dried snot in your baby's nose!

Clinically proven to reduce colic and discomfort**, the Anti-colic baby bottle helps your baby sleep well and digest properly. Unlike other bottles, the Airflex venting system reduces air ingestion. As your baby feeds, the valve that is integrated into the nipple flexes to allow air into the bottle to prevent vacuum build up and vents the air to the back of the bottle. It keeps air in the bottle away from the baby’s tummy to help reduce gas, spit-up and burping.
Philips Avent Slow-Flow Nipples are a dual-hole extra-soft silicone nipple intended for infants older than one month, yet they can be used by breastfed babies of all ages. Working with your baby's natural feeding rhythm, the nipples let your baby control the flow, which can help reduce overeating and spit-up.

It generates just the right amount of suction to remove stubborn mucus without harming your baby's delicate sinuses. We like how it is designed to fit compactly in the palm of your hand so that you can use it single-handedly while having the other hand free to hold and settle baby. Simply turn on the power by pressing on the single button and the motor will start performing its suction function.

The waterproof construction allows for heavy rinsing without damaging the electronic components and the internal silicone mucus collector cup and nozzle can be removed and boiled for sterilisation

If you prefer the traditional bulb type nasal aspirators, Innovo Silicone Twister Bulb Nasal Aspirator will be right up your alley.

This hospital grade translucent bulb is the best suction bulb for babies and is one that is highly recommended by paediatricians. Made of 100% silicone that is hypoallergenic and naturally germ resistant, you can be sure this will not cause any sensitive reaction in your baby.

How it works is simple and easy - press the top of the bulb with your thumb to expel the air in the bulb first (continue compressing it) before inserting the soft tip into baby's nose, then slowly release your thumb to create suction. The translucent bulb will let you see how much snot is removed so there's no more second guessing and further irritating a sick baby.

4. Other ways to soothe baby's nose block

Another nose-soothing item that parents love is the saline spray. These are basically salt + water with no alcohol or preservatives so you can rest assured it will not be harmful to your baby. Not only do they help loosen and flush mucus secretions from nasal passages so that your nasal aspirator can perform better, they also moisturise dry, crusty nasal passages caused by allergies, cold, heated environments or low humidity.

Which leads us to the second item that you should get for your nursery - a humidifier. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. It is best if you can prevent your little one from getting the cold/flu rather than curing it later and one way to do so is to ensure the surrounding air is not too dry. Dry air is one of the reason of catching the cold (now you know why everyone gets sick in winter!) and a humidifier will completely eliminate this problem, that is, if you get the right one!
