How To Clean Your House Quickly For Visitors

Imagine sitting on your sofa, reading to your little ones, other children are working hard on their subjects, you’re super focused on your homeschooling day. Then the phone rings and you decide to answer. A new friend is on her way over with her own children to visit when you look around and panic by how messy everything is!

As much as you’d love for your new friend to visit, you realize that this is the day the laundry wasn’t put into the washing machine, your dog dragged the toilet paper into the living room, you notice that the kitchen wasn’t cleaned up after lunch time, and you get the picture. It’s been one of those days.

You’re not alone! It’s amazing how quickly a home can get messy, especially if you have kids or pets. But don’t worry, any mess can be cleaned up fast just in time for company coming over. Here are some tips on how to clean your House quickly for visitors!

How to Clean Your House Quickly for Visitors

1. Have a Broad Focus

The first thing to remember when you’re trying to clean your house quickly for visitors is that you’re doing a rush job. You don’t have time to scrub tile grout or nit-pick. Instead, you need to work in broad strokes. Take care of the biggest, most obvious messes first (a pile of toys on the ground, dirt on the carpet, a mess on the kitchen counters, etc.), then if you still have time, move on to smaller jobs.

2. Vacuum Fast

A simple way to make any space look clean is with a quick vacuuming! And by quick, I mean, really quick. Don’t vacuum under any furniture, and move as quickly as you can. Sprint up and down the hall with the vacuum if you have to! You’ll need time for other things.

3. Tidy Up, But Don’t Organize

Maybe you don’t have a chance to take all of your kids’ toys from the living room and put them exactly where they belong. That’s fine. Dump them in any available place that’s semi-correct and move on. You can fix the disorganization later. Also, set the timer and see if your children can beat the clock. Mine love doing this and it makes quick cleaning fun.

4. Fill the Dishwasher

A kitchen looks instantly ten times cleaner if the sink is empty. So, make sure to fill the dishwasher with any dirty dishes that may have been sitting in the sink or on the counter. If you’ve used up most of your clean dishes already, turn on the dishwasher.

5. Scent the Space

A diffuser with essential oils or burning a scented candle will not only fill your home with a pleasant fragrance, it’ll instantly make your house feel more clean and well-arranged.

6. Wipe Down the Bathroom

There’s a 50/50 chance your visitors will want to use your bathroom. So when you clean your house quickly for visitors, give the toilet bowl a swish, and wipe down the sink, counters, and mirrors. If you have a shower/bathtub curtain, draw it over the shower/tub. And put any necessary toiletries (lotion, extra toilet paper, etc.) within easy reach, so your guests don’t go rummaging through disorganized bathroom cupboards!

7. Don’t Worry About the Kids’ Rooms

If you have kids and you’re trying to clean your house quickly for visitors, don’t worry too much about their rooms or the playroom. This is even truer if your visitors are bringing kids with them who will want to play with your children.

8. Grab a Snack From the Freezer

I learned this years ago. I keep homemade muffins, cakes, and other goodies in my freezer. When I know company is coming, I take out a batch and set them on the counter. If you freeze the treats small enough, they’ll defrost in a jiffy and will be ready to serve to your guests. Add in a cup of tea and you have a great opportunity to sit, relax, and enjoy some conversation.

If you do all (or most) of these things, your home will seem decently clean. Unless your visitors are neat-freaks, they shouldn’t even be able to tell that your house wasn’t clean before they called!

Also, remember that your guests are coming over to see you, not your clean house. Aim to make it comfortable but don’t stress too much.
