We rode the night

Womens cancer strips the lives of too many. They take away the heart and soul of many women. They reveal the ugly reality that cancer doesn’t discriminate.
Last night we rode for you all, all 3500 of us.  We rode so hard thinking of every shitty radiotherapy, horrendous chemo, life changing news that we all pray we’ll never have to live through.
London was lit with a sea of flashing lights, ringing bells, wonderful, beautiful women all riding to raise money to help show cancer weren’t not going to lay down and take it. We’re not going to let you win, we will peddle until our legs burn out. We will scream in the face of you and say “WE ARE BETTER THAN YOU!!!”.
it was 65 miles from 9.30pm until 5.30am that made me think of me, my Sister, my Mum, my Nieces, my best friends. I got to a point where I was so tired, feeling so defeated that I got off, walked and cried like a baby.  I wanted to be brave like they are, I wanted to manage that Hill like those women manage their treatment so valiantly. Instead, I walked and I cried, God did I  cry! I then reached the top where my loyal friend waited for me, gave me a reassuring slap and said “come on girl. We got this.”
Auntie Jane,
Wow, wish you could have seen us. We will never stop remembering your life. Mum misses you, I wish you could tell her you’re okay. She misses your voice, she misses your life, she misses your friendship. Our children know about their Awesome Auntie Jane, you brought us so much light, love and warm, but you were taken too young. We’re never going to be okay with it! I rode my sweetest Auntie Jane for you, for Mum, for Emma, for Abi and Daisy, for our future.  As I cried, I thought of your heroic battle, right until the cruel end when it took you.

Keep watching over us, we’ll never stop needing you.

Love

In amongst this magnificent achievement, we gently carried flowers upon our bikes. We protected their petals as they represented the love of this country. It was to show that love will always win over hate. We all laid these roses down on Westminster Bridge to say Manchester, we stand with you. London, we remember what they did to you. For every life taken to these atrocities is a crime against life, but we won’t forget you. We all paused, we all thought, we all remembered. Your life was precious and your light was snuffed out too soon. To all those recovering, surviving, trying to make sense of the horrific crime, know our hearts are with you all.
